The unicitiES 2030 program is a cooperation between the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz. It aims at promoting the development of end-of-degree/master projects between the university and the city, in which students, university faculty and municipal professionals collaborate to co-create solutions and contribute to sustainable urban transformation by solving specific challenges faced by cities to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.
unicitiES 2030 is promoted by REDS-SDSN Spain and the citiES 2030 platform. The program is being piloted in the academic year 2023-2024 in Valencia and Vitoria-Gasteiz. It aims at promoting the development of end-of-degree/master projects between the university and the city, in which students, university faculty and municipal professionals collaborate to co-create solutions and contribute to sustainable urban transformation by solving specific challenges faced by cities to achieve climate neutrality in 2030.
This collaborative work is established on public policies and municipal strategies that pursue a sustainable and equitable city model, allowing experimentation with ideas, prototypes and actions that produce evidence, turning the city into a laboratory.
After the first meeting in the end of January between the technical staff of the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz and faculty of the University of the Basque Country to connect academic knowledge and municipal knowledge and identify possible works to be carried out, the call for applications was published and 29 applications were received, among which a total of six projects were selected.
