Education and culture can play an important role towards social transformation. But, how can they promote this change? The summer course "Education and Culture for Sustainable Development" of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), which took place from 3-4 July 2023 in Bilbao and San Sebastian-Donostia, sought answers to this and other questions.

The climate, economic and social crises, underlined by recent events, define a new panorama for the world. In this context, it is worth asking, what role do culture and education play in the new social contract and in the framework of the 2030 Agenda? Education and culture can play an important role towards social transformation. Both can foster our ability to recognize interconnections, as well as a holistic view of the world. Culture and education together have the potential to accelerate the shift towards a new global community that recognizes its place in and interdependence with the world.

The summer course "Education and Culture for Sustainable Development", which took place on the 3-4 July 2023 in Bilbao and San Sebastian-Donostia, was organized by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), together with SDSN Spain (Sustainable Development Solutions Network), UNetxea and the Basque Government.
The course aimed to a) demonstrate the impact of the culture and education pairing in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and b) address how to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into cultural and educational practice. It consisted of a theoretical-practical training based on debates between experts and dialogue with the public, as well as inspiring cases that work at the intersection of culture, education and sustainable development.
