The workshop, organised by the German, Austrian and Slovakian UNESCO Commissions took place 15 to 17 June 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The summary statement outlines a common understanding of sustainability science and calls for inter-and transdisciplinary research as well as a transformation of academic structures and funding schemes. Representatives of the COPERNICUS Alliance as well as the UE4SD project (Gerd Michelsen & Clemens Mader, Leuphana University Lüneburg, Jana Dlouha, Charles University Prague and Laima Galkute from Vilnius University) contributed in the workshop.
