With the ESD-chair of Prof. Heike Molitor, the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) sets impulses in research and practice of Education for Sustainable Development. The working group Sustainability at Brandenburg Universities, which is headed by Dr. Jennifer Krah under the professional direction of Prof. Dr. Heike Molitor, has released two publications to support the curricular integration of HESD and the capacity building of teaching staff and multipliers in this field.
With the ESD-chair of Prof. Heike Molitor, the HNEE repeatedly sets impulses in research and practice of Education for Sustainable Development. For example, through the coordination office of the working group Sustainability at Brandenburg Universities, which is headed by Dr. Jennifer Krah under the professional direction of Prof. Dr. Heike Molitor. Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD) is also professionally anchored at the governance level of HNEE through the President Prof. Matthias Barth.
The working group Sustainability at Brandenburg Universities fosters the implementation of HESD throughout the federal state of Brandenburg. In order to support the curricular integration of HESD and the capacity building of teaching staff and multipliers in this field, the working group has released two new publications. Both publications were developed in the context of universities in the federal state of Brandenburg. They are largely transferable to German-speaking universities and can also provide new impulses for capacity building at universities and the curricular integration of HESD in the international university context. At a later date, the two publications shall be translated into English.
Please feel free to use and disseminate the publications in your universities:
Designing future-proof curricula – A manual on the curricular integration of Higher Education for Sustainable Development
In order to realize sustainability in teaching, it is of central importance to anchor the concept of HESD in the curricula and framework documents relevant to higher education. For this purpose, the working group has published a manual that assembles further materials and literature on the curricular integration of ESD. The manual focusses on the thematic and content-related integration of sustainability, on the didactical and methodical anchoring of ESD and on a competence-oriented ESD in the module descriptions of study programs. The manual addresses teaching staff of all disciplines and multipliers who are committed to sustainable development at their university and want to anchor it in university teaching.
Framework for the training program "Future-proof teaching for sustainable development" by the working group Sustainability at Brandenburg Universities
What is "sustainability in teaching"? How can Higher Education for Sustainable Development be implemented in teaching practice and anchored at the university? How can lecturers and multipliers actively shape sustainable development at their universities and in their region? In order to support ESD capacity building at universities, the working group "Sustainability at Brandenburg Universities" has developed a training program and made it publicly accessible with this framework. The aim of this training program is to promote the implementation and anchoring of ESD in a tangible and application-oriented way as well as to foster awareness for the potential of ESD for excellent teaching amongst all university members. The framework provides an overview of the units of the training program, provides detailed module descriptions and further materials. The offer addresses key actors for the integration of sustainability in teaching at universities: lecturers of all disciplines and teaching experiences, as well as multipliers (e.g. representatives of the vice presidencies for studies and teaching and university didactics, study program and module managers, quality officers).
