The University of Padua is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious seats of learning. Founded in 1222, Padua’s Studium Patavinum was a place of study that readily welcomed Italian students and scholars, as well as those from various European countries searching for cultural freedom and expression.
Still today, the University of Padua holds some impressive numbers. With about 70,000 students and 2,700 educators within its 32 departments, the University also employees over 2,600 technical administrators. Accrediting more than 13,000 graduates each year, awarding about 10,000 scholarships, and brandishing over 2.3 million books available throughout its 20 libraries. The University continues to transform its level of excellence in education by offering a vast range of degree programs, including more than 180 bachelor and master degree programs, 14 single-cycle degree programs, almost 100 master degree programs, 17 advanced programs, and 15 specialized training courses. The University includes over 70 specialization schools and 41 PhD schools.
In 2017, the University of Padua launched the Sustainable UniPadova project, which aims to give greater visibility to the University’s sustainability actions and acting as a catalyst for initiatives, involving the entire academic community, from students and staff to government bodies. It has adopted a Sustainability Commitments Charter and publishes a Sustainability Report based on the GRI Standards every year.
Thanks to the initiatives undertaken, the university has received several awards over the years and is among the top universities in the world in the three main sustainability rankings: GreenMetric, THE Impact Rankings and QS WUR Sustainability Rankings.
