Universitat de Girona (University of Girona) is a public institution in Catalonia, Spain. Since its creation in 1991, it has been devoted to excellence in teaching and research and to participating in the progress and development of society through the creation, transmission, diffusion and criticism of knowledge related to the sciences, technology, the humanities, the social sciences and the arts. It consists of 9 faculties, 15000 students and 1450 university teachers.
The Universitat de Girona has three separate campuses in the city of Girona (Montilivi, Barri Vell and City Centre). The Faculty of Education and Psychology is located at the Barri Vell campus, created through the restoration of historical buildings and it is part of the historic heritage of the city. The Faculty of Education and Psychology comprises the Institute for Educational Research, which is formed by 12 research groups related to education.
One of these research groups is GRECA (Research Group in Scientific and Environmental Education), coordinated by Anna Maria Geli since its creation in the nineties and with the distinction of ‘consolidated’ by the Catalan Government.
The core group is formed by 5 researchers of the Science Didactics Area, 3 researchers of the Social Sciences Didactics Area, 2 of the Mathematics Didactics Area and 1 of Didactics and School Organisation Area. Moreover, GRECA counts on other collaborators, such as childhood, primary and secondary school teachers, non-formal educators and lecturers from other universities.
The main research line of GRECA is Education for Sustainability, which is carried out through the participation in several national and international projects related to curriculum greening, training of teachers and other educators for sustainability and the evaluation of outdoor learning programs.
