With our webinar series "CA Exchange" we highlight great activities in our network and foster interaction and exchange between colleagues from different member institutions and beyond. On 29 January 2025, Lise Janssens introduced the initiative "CCREDO – Co-creation of teaching and learning materials for education for sustainable development". She explained what a lesson design workshop is and illustrated how to organize lesson design workshops and co-creation initiatives to support education for sustainable development.
Education is often seen as one of the central elements to support the transformation to a more sustainable society. However, teaching and learning for sustainability is complex and teachers are confronted with different challenges. They indicate they often feel badly prepared to integrate education for sustainable development and feel lonely in regards to the different challenges they face. To overcome these challenges, the initiative "CCREDO – Co-creation of teaching and learning materials for education for sustainable development" was established.
Lise Janssens (UGent/Hasselt University) explained that CCREDO is a partnership designed and created thanks to the initiative of Prof. Dr. Katrien Van Poeck and the Centre for Sustainability Studies at Ghent University (UGent). In this partnership Katrien Van Poeck and Lise Janssens work together with different partners and institutions in Belgium who are passionate about education for sustainable development. The goal of CCREDO is to create a partnership to support the co-creation and sharing of high-quality educational materials to teach and learn for sustainability. Via lesson design workshops professional expertise and research expertise are combined so that teachers, teacher trainers, educational researchers, and students from teacher trainings can co-create practical and useful educational materials. The participants of the session were introduced to the concept of lesson design workshops and how learned how to organize lesson design workshops and co-creation initiatives to support education for sustainable development.
CCREDO has just started and is currently in a pilot phase.
